(District IV) (Budgeted, 75% Federal funds, CFDA 93.600 / 25% State funds) FISCAL IMPACT: Funds included in Department's FY 2008-09 budget. Grant sources are Administration for Children and Families (Head Start Program) and California Department of Education, Child Development Program. No County costs. These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County. BACKGROUND: Contra Costa County receives funds from the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) to provide Head Start program services to program eligible County residents. The Board approved receipi of funds from ACF on September 18, 2007. The Department, in turn, contrats with al number of community-based organizations to provide a wider distribution of services. Approval of this contract will allow the provision of Head Start services to ei6hty-four (84) program eligible children through June 30, 2009. County also receives funds from the California Department of Education (CDE) Child Development program for State Preschool and child development services. The Board approved receipt of funds from CDEi on January 8, 2008, January 15, 2008 and March 18, 2008. The Department also contracts with a number of community-based organizations to provide a wider outreach for these services as well. Approval of this contract will allow the provision of State Preschool services to twenty-four (24) program eligible children through June 30, 2009.
