Rupf, Sheriff-Coroner _ o� :$ V,� County DATE: June 9, 2008 Srq °U SUBJECT: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract with the Commission on Peace Officers Standards for Driving Simulator Instructor Training and Force Option Simulator Coursles SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATIONS)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff, or designee, to sign a contract with the State of California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.)to accept an amount up to $77,420 for the presentation of P.O.S.T. certified Driving Simulator Instructor Training and P.O.S.T certified Force Option Simulator Course during the period of July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. FINANCIAL IMPACT: No Net Cost to County. Revenue 100% State, $77,420. BACKGROUND: In January of 2001, the Office of the Sheriff took over the operation of the Law Enforcement Training Center. One of the courses required by P.O.S.T. is the Driving Simulator Instructor Training. P.O.S.T. provides funding on an annual basis for agencies that!present this training. This contract allows the Law Enforcement Training Center to provide the 24-hour Driving Simulator Instructor Course to (490) students at a cost not to exceed $79.00 per student or $38,710. An additional P.O.S.T. mandated training course is the Force Option Simulator Course. In addition, this contract also authorizes the Office of the Sheriff to train (490) students on the force Option Simulator at a cost not to exceed $79.00 per student not to exceed $38,710.
