These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County. BACKGROUND: As the Head Start grantee, the Department is eligible to apply to the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) for an Innovation and Improvement grant. The grant is presented as an Open Category; therefore we are requesting funding for The Incredible Years program. These funds will assist the Department to implement all three components of The Incredible Years program: (1) A 12- week psycho-educational training/workshop and support group for parents (2) Small child groups in the classroom (3) Teacher training. The Incredible Years program has been shown, through extensive research, to help reduce oppositional, defiant and aggressive behavior in children, and ultimately decrease violence in the community. If awarded, the County will have opportunity to renew the grant for an additional two years, for a possible total grant allocation of$900,000 over the three year period. The application was reviewed and approved by the Head Start Policy Council on May 21, 2008. I I
