SUBJECT: EXTENSION OF EMERGENCY DECLARATION REGARDING
COSCO BUSAN OIL SPILL
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
CONTINUE the emergency action taken by the Board of Supervisors on November 27, 2007 regarding the
Cosco Busan oil spill in San Francisco Bay.
BACKGROUND:
Government Code 8630 requires, for a body that meets weekly, that the need to continue an emergency
declaration be reviewed at least every 14 days until the local emergency is terminated.. In no event is the
review to take place more than 21 days after the previous review.
With the continued cleanup efforts, and closed beaches, it is appropriate for the Board to continue the
declaration of a local emergency.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Failure to continue the declaration may cause current and future expense claims incurred by agencies and
individuals impacted by the oil spill to be disqualified for reimbursement.
