These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County. BACKGROUND: Contra Costa County receives funds from the California Department of Education (CDE) Child Development Program to provide State Preschool and State Pre- Kindergarten Family Literacy services to program eligible County residents. The Board approved receipt of funds from CDE on January 8, 2008, January 15, 2008 and March 18, 2008. The Department, in turn, contracts with a number of community-based organizations to provide a wider distribution of services. Approval of this contract will allow the provision of State Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Family Literacy services to eighty (80) program eligible children through June 30, 2009.
