SUBJECT: Amend Contract with Maria Mercado, dba California Translation Service
for Written and Oral Translator Bank Services
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
This contract supports all of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card:
1) "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and
Preparing for Productive Adulthood"; 3) "Families that are Economically Self Sufficient"; 4)
"Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; and 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a
High Quality of Life for Children and Families," by providing on call written and oral translators
and translations for clients whose language needs cannot be adequately met by staff.
BACKGROUND:
The Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) provides supportive services to non-
English speaking clients whose primary languages include, but are limited to Spanish, Korean,
Laotian, Tagalog, Russian, Farsi, Afghani, and Vietnamese. On-call oral and written translation
services provide communication assistance to EHSD clients whose language needs cannot be
met by the EHSD staff.
This contract amendment will pay Contractor for authorized services, in excess of the contract
payment limit, during the month of April.
