DATE: May 6, 2008 COUNTY
.SUBJECT: Resolution Number 2008/3AP—,
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
ADOPT Resolution Number 2008/ 3o2A, regarding salary reallocations for the Deputy County Counsel Basic,
Standard, and Advanced (211TH, 2ETJ., 2ETK), and Civil Litigation Attorney Basic, Standard, and Advanced
(2ETE, 2ETF, 2ETG), and Deputy Public Defender III and IV (25TB, 25TA) classifications.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost associated with this action is approximately $769,889 for the Deputy Public Defender III and IV and
approximately $635,574 for Deputy County Counsel and Civil Litigation Attorney classifications.
BACKGROUND:
The Department is requesting the salary reallocation for Deputy County Counsel, Civil Litigation Attorney, and
Deputy Public Defender classifications to create parity amongst the County's attorney classifications. It is
necessary to reallocate the salaries to fairly compensate these classifications in relation to comparable job
assignments and in order to facilitate recruitment of the best-qualified candidates for these classifications
when future vacancies arise.
CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this request is not approved, the County could be detrimentally impacted by the potential loss of highly
trained personnel to counties paying higher salaries.
