FOR DEDICATED GROUP HOME SHELTER SERVICES. BACKGROUND: Youth Homes, Inc., provides for two dedicated group homes (twelve beds) providing countywide shelter services at established Central County and East County sites. Both homes provide 24- hour intake, a no-restriction admission policy, and specialized staffing to accommodate children whose backgrounds may be unknown at time of placement. These 2 group homes are the primary shelter care facilities in Contra Costa County; they serve children with serious behavioral and emotional problems both when coming into the social services system for the first time, and when requiring emergency placement. They serve an essential function that no other county facility provides. Keeping children in Contra Costa County in the least restrictive setting possible helps with visitation and reunification efforts. Additionally, without these dedicated beds more children would be placed in costlier, more restrictive facilities outside of Contra Costa County. EHSD also realizes some cost benefits through improved caseworker access to children. (21-527-9)
