SUBJECT: Amend Contract with Don Peery for Grant Project Management
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, on
behalf of the Workforce Development Board, to execute a contract amendment with Don Peery,
for grant project management, effective May 31, 2008, to increase the payment limit by $95,750
to a new payment limit of$185,750 and extend the term to reflect the grant extension from May
31, 2008 through December 31, 2008.

FISCAL IMPACT:
$185,750 58% ($108,000) State Advanced Manufacturing Grant; 30% ($56,500) Federal
Workforce Investment Act WIA Dislocated Workers; 12% ($21,250) Los Medanos Community
Based Tracking Grant. No County Costs.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT;
The contract supports all fie of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report
Card: 1)"Children Ready for and Succeeding in School", 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and
Preparing for Productive Adulthood", 3) "Families that are Economically Self-Sufficient",
4) "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing", and 5) "Communities that are safe and Provide
a High Quality of Life for Children and Families by training and providing employment
opportunities.
BACKGROUND:
The Workforce Development Board (WDB)of Contra Costa County has been awarded multiple
grants to retrain dislocated workers to become employable in the energy and
manufacturing industries.
WDB has developed strong partnerships with elected officials, leading corporations and unions
in Contra Costa County to support the grant projects. Following a summit focusing on
manufacturing, the WDB acted aggressively in seeking funding to meet industry needs.
Grants are regional, supporting collaborate work and training with San Mateo and Alameda
counties. Other partners to the grants include education and unions. Training will be provided
through Los Medanos College. Collaboration with all partners has required a grant project
manager.
Grants have been extended through December 31, 2008. This contract amendment for grant
management will extend the contract for grant management to coincide with the grant(s)
extension and the ongoing efforts of the WDB to retrain dislocated workers for positions in
energy and manufacturing opportunities
