Valentine, Director Costaic Employment and Human Services �OST'4 COUTZ� G4~` CountyDATE: May 20, 2008 SUBJECT: Donations for the In-Home Supportive Services Public Authority Provider Recognition Event SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, on behalf of the In- Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority, to accept donations not to exceed $10,000, to include a cash donation of$5,000 from the United Health Workers West and additional donations to the IHSS Public Authority up to a total of$5,000 to offset expenses for the IHSS Public Authority Provider Recognition Event. (#29-271-0) FISCAL IMPACT: The Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) on behalf of the IHSS Public Authority, is to receive up to $10,000 in donations for the IHSS Public Authority, Provider Recognition Event. No County General Fund cost. Donations for the In-Home Supportive Services, Public Authority, Provider Recognition Event BACKGROUND: The IHSS Public Authority is a public agency whose general purpose is to improve the IHSS program for IHSS consumers and providers. Public Authority services include a registry of IHSS providers, referral of registry providers to IHSS consumers and training and support for consumers and providers. The IHSS program provides domestic and personal care assistance to eligible elderly, blind and disabled persons who need assistance to remain safely in their homes. The IHSS Public Authority Provider Recognition Event recognizes in-home supportive services caregivers for their services and supportive to the low-income disabled and elderly residents in Contra Costa County to assist the individuals to remain living independently in their homes. The donations will offset expenses for the IHSS Public Authority Provider Recognition Event.
