HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05132008 - AJ.1 AJ THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adjournment March 11, 2008 On this day the Board of Supervisors adjourned this meeting in honor of A Lafayette roan who joined the Air Force seeking structure in his life was killed Tuesday'in a roadside bombing,just two months after he volunteered for duty in Afghanistan. Senior Airman Jonathan "Jake" Antonio Vega Yelner, 24, was fatally wounded when the vehicle lie was in set off an improvised explosive device near Bagram, Afghanistan, according to a Department of Defense news release. Yelner, who joined the Air Force in 2004, was a weapons loading specialist for B-1 bombers with the 28th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. A spokesman at Ellsworth said he could not provide details of Yelner's assignment or base in Afghanistan. But Bruce Yelner said his son was a driver and guard for the convoys traveling to remote areas to rebuild the country's shattered infrastructure. Yelner is the first Ellsworth airman to die in a combat-related incident in Afghanistan or Iraq. THIS IS A MATTER FOR RECORD PURPOSES ONLY NO BOARD ACTION WAS TAKEN t.
