ACCEPT oral report from the Employment Ind Human Services Department and representatives of the
Advisory Council on Aging and the Area Agency on Aging on their Scam Buster project to help address scams
directed at seniors.

The incidence of frauds and scams, particularly those targeting older adults, is rising dramatically.

contractors and auto repairs to identity theft. In the interest of protecting our most vulnerable
populations, the Advisory Council on Aging of the Area Agency on Aging is providing seniors (and
those who work with seniors) with Senior Scam Buster Kits, compiled and made available by the
State Department of Consumer Affairs. Kits and brochures are available in English and in Spanish.
The Scam Buster Kit distribution is part of a larger effort to raise awareness and to address elder
financial abuse across the spectrum; prevention, intervention and prosecution.
