Com, `•_ ••GAY SQA, DATE: April 1, 2008 CO---- County SUBJECT: P300 #20408- Health Services SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution Number 20408,to Establish the classification of Hazardous Materials Ombudsperson (VLSA) (Unrepresented), allocate it on the salary schedule at salary level B85-1599($5,102-$6,201)and add one(1)permanent full-time position and cancel one(1) Executive Assistant to the Hazardous Materials Commission (Exempt) (XDS1) position#8929 at salary schedule at salary level B851803($6,244-$7,589). FISCAL IMPACT: Upon approval,this action will result in an annual cost savings of$24,253. BACKGROUND: On July 15, 1997 the Board of Supervisors authorized creation of an Ombudsperson position for the County's Hazardous Materials Program. Section 450-8-022 of the Industrial Safety Ordinance, adopted by the Board of Supervisor on December 15, 1998, requires the Health Services Department to employ an Ombudsperson. This position is to serve as a single point of contact for people who live or work in the County regarding environmental health concerns, questions and complaints about the Hazardous Materials Program. Responsibilities will include investigation of the County's citizens and/or employees concerns/complaints, facilitate resolution and provide technical assistance to the public. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this request is not approved,the Health Services Department will be out of co plia ce with the County' ndustri Safety Ordinance adopted on December 15, 1998 and will not meet the goals set for the Hazard us Mat rials Programs.
