SUBJECT: P300 #20469 — Health Services
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND.-AND,JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution#20469 to REACTIVATE the classification.of Mental Health Medical Director-Exempt(VPD1)and allocate
the salary schedule at level B85 2643($14,344/month flat)and add one(1)full-time position in the Mental Health Division of the Health Services
Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total annual cost associated with the action is$261,980:80 a'rid.will be'funded 75%with mental health realignment and 25%with Mental Health
Services Act revenue.
BACKGROUND:
The State Department of Mental Health contract requires the Health Services Department retain on staff a Medical Director to provide planning,
organization and clinical supervision to the medical component of services provided by the Mental Health Division. On November 15, 2005 the
Board of Supervisor approved to abandon the Mental Health Medical Director-Exempt classification as part of a project clean up of the County's
classifications not having positions associated to them or being utilized. In 2005;.this classification was not being utilized. Health Services approved
the deactivation of the Mental Health Medical Director classification.and:re-assigned,duties to the Medical Staff Physician, who received regular
compensation and an additional monthly stipend. Medical Staff Physician resigned early 2007, therefore leaving the need for the Department to re-
activate classification and add a position.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, Health Services will not have the staff to provide clinical dir ction and supervision for Division. This
could adversely affect the quality of mental health services,provided by the:county..
