FISCAL IMPACT: This action is one of four personnel transactions that make up the reorganization of the Office of the Sheriffs Forensic Services Division which will result in a net County cost savings as a result of cancellation of existing positions from previous personnel transactions. BACKGROUND: The Office of the Sheriff has been in discussions with Human Resources and two labor organizations regarding the restructuring of the Forensics Division. The restructuring in part is based on the Grand Jury's findings and recommendation to respond to changing technology and backlog concerns in the Forensics Division. This newly established supervisory class appropriately reflects the duties and responsibilities in support of the new restructure and insures adequate supervision and oversight to Criminalists. It also parallels the nomenclature of the civilian Criminalists career ladder. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this request is not approved, the reorganization of the Forensics Division will not have adequate supervision nor appropriately compensate the incumbent`for duties performed outside of his classification.
