SUBJECT: Contract with Language Line Services to Provide Interpretation and
Translation Services
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to
execute a contract with Language Line Services, Inc., in the amount of$600,000 for
interpretation and documentation translation services for the period April 1, 2008 through March
31, 2009.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$600,000: Administrative Overhead Costs (20% County; 40% State; 40% Federal)

SUBJECT: Contract with Language Line Services to Provide Interpretation and
Translation Services
1) "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and
Preparing for Productive Adulthood"; 3) "Families that are Economically Self Sufficient"; 4)
"Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; and 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a
High Quality of Life for Children and Families," by providing interpretation services to non-
English Speaking Clients.
BACKGROUND:
Language Line Services, Inc., was selected through the competitive process (Request for
Proposal #1097), to provide telephone interpretation, onsite interpretation, and document
translation services to non-English speaking recipients of Employment and Human Services
Department services. In compliance with State and Federal regulations, interpretation services
will be made via telephone translation and in-person, onsite translation services. Document
translation services will also be provided for any document needing translation into English or
into a client's native language.
