SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract
with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in the amount of$54,300 for countywide emergency food
distribution services for the term of July1, 2007 through June 30, 2008.

FISCAL IMPACT:
$54,300 Keller Canyon Surcharge Revenue, 100% County
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
This contract supports all five of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card:
1) "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive
Adulthood'; 3) "Families that are Economically Self Sufficient"; 4) "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing";
and, 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families" by addressing
the nutritional needs of individuals in crisis.

Services continued)
BACKGROUND:
The Food Bank of Contra and Solano provides emergency and supplemental food to individuals in crisis and
approximately one hundred forty (140) non-profit social service organizations located in Contra Costa County
including emergency food pantries, senior citizen groups, which include Brown Bag sites, childcare centers,
substance abuse and mental health halfway houses, and other eligible organizations. Services include
delivering emergency and supplemental food supplies to organizations recognized as community distribution
centers and distributing special holiday baskets.
