COUNTY coux SUBJECT: REQUEST TO PURCHASE ONE ADDITIONAL VEHICLE FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to purchase one additional vehicle for the Department of Agriculture. FINANCIAL IMPACT The Department of Agriculture is purchasing one additional vehicle for an estimated purchase cost of $19,131. The purchase will be made with funds previously transferred from the Department of Agriculture ($16,918, AP005067) plus an additional $2,213 to be transferred. BACKGROUND The Department of Agriculture is adding an additional vehicle to be used in the Pest Detection Program. In accordance with Administrative Bulletin No. 508: "County Vehicle and Equipment Acquisition and Replacement Policy with Guidelines," approval is requested for the purchase of this vehicle. Based on a review of the need for the new vehicle and consideration of alternative fueled vehicles, the Fleet Manager recommends approval of this request. This request has been reviewed and approved by the County Administrator for consideration by the Board of Supervisors. Due to changes in the needs of the Department in the Pest Detection Program that were mostly caused by the find and delimitation of Light Brown Apple Moth we are requesting a pick-up truck instead of a van. The appropriation for a new vehicle was approved by the Board of Supervisors on March 13, 2007. The money that has been appropriated is sufficient to cover the entire cost of the pick-up truck. The estimated cost of an E-250 van was $16,918. The base cost of the requested F-150 truck is $16,127. A revised vehicle request form is attached.
