CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Local Planning Council for Ch1:d Care has been established to support all of the five County
community outcomes: Children Ready for and Succeeding in School: Children and Youth Healthy and
Preparing for Productive Adultnood; Fami;ies That are Economically Self-Sufficient: Famiiies That are
Safe. Stable and Nurturing; and Communit es Tha:are Safe and Provide High Quality of Life for Children
and Families.
BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR i
The primary mission of the Local Child Care and Development Planning Council (LPGs) is to plan for chid
care and deve:opment services based on the needs of families in the local community. LPCs are intended
to serve as a forum to address the child care reeds of all families in the community for all types of child
care. both subsidized and non-subsidized.

Another LPC mandate is to identify local funding priority areas for childcare services for both general child
care and development programs and the State Preschool Program for new State and Federal funds.
The LPC, in a collaborative effort with First 5 Contra Costa Children and Families Commission, Contra
Costa County Office of Education, and the Contra Costa Chiid Care Council prepared a profile of child I
care needs in Contra Costa County for years 2005—2015 and developed priorities. The outcome of this
effort:s outlined in Attachment A.
Data on the supply and demand for childcare by zip code for both infant'preschool and school age are
shown on Attachment B.
