RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution#20316 to ADD one 32/40 Library Specialist position (3AVA- j
Represented) in the Library. i
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total annual cost for this action is $73.688.61 with no net county cost. The Library's 2007-2008 budget
included plans for this position which is provided for in the approved budget.

BACKGROUND:
The Library is preparing for the implementation of a new strategic plan that focuses on four new avenues of
public service: Reading. General Information, Collaboration. and Branding. The additional Library Specialist I.
position plays a key role in building collaboration between Contra Costa County libraries and civic and I
community organizations. The Library Specialist duties include developing and maintaining responsive j
outreach services to targeted populations, assisting in the implementation of a marketing plan for the library, '
developing and delivering public presentations, and training for community library staff.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, the Departmerit will not have adequate staffing to assist in developing
collaborative relationships with community organizations. and marketing library services.
