INSPIRATIONAL LIFE AND CONTRIBUTIONS
OF CHAPLAIN DR. HAMILTON T. BOSWELL
WHEREAS, Chaplain Dr. Hamilton T. Boswell,who resided in Pt. Richmond,was born in Texas in 1914;
moved to Los Angeles as a boy; moved back to Texas to get his B.A. degree from Wiley College in
Marshall; moved back to Los Angeles to get his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Southern
California; Los Angeles; and, began his career in the clergy at St. Johns Methodist Church in Los
Angeles; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Hamilton Boswell-;arr-ived'_iii San F>ancisc6`,in 1947. to assume the pastorship of Jones
Methodist Church in the heart of th6;'T nofe.Distriet; and =
WHEREAS, Dr. Hamilton Boswell joined'others working from the pfedomiiiantly black Fillmore District
to fight for the`riglits,of_Bay Area African-Americans;Mand
WHEREAS, Dr Harniltoti•Boswell-t7,'as`a passionate advocate'fot_edutation and community involvement;
and
WHEREAS;iDr. Hamilton Boswell founded the Jones Methodist Credit Union and the"Jones Memorial
Homes, the first federally-financed senior citizen housing in San Fr"ancisco, and „
WHEREAS,.Dr Hamilton Boswellreceived numerous awards and commendations; mc in the coveted
Civic Aw1rd•of the Silver Spur for-his work in senior housing,the Freedom Awafd bthe NAACP
two tunes in,1972 and-,:1974 fox his contuiunig-,advocacy of civil ants; and the Human
Righis-Award,byQthe California State Senate-and,Asseii bly in T964,and

RESOLUTION HONORING JUDGE RESOLUTION NO. 2007/281
PETER L. SPINETTA ON THE OCCASION OF
HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE BENCH
WHEREAS, Judge Peter L. Spinetta was appointed to the Contra Costa County Superior Court on
May 11, 1989 by Governor George Deukmejian; and
WHEREAS, his fellow judges relied upon him as a leader, and he was elected to serve as the
Presiding Judge of the court. Judge Spinetta served as Presiding Judge during a period when the
court transitioned —first to a unified court and then to a consolidated Superior Court; leading retired
Judge Ellen James to refer to him as the "father of the new Superior Court"; and
WHEREAS, Judge Spinetta served as Supervising Judge of the Family Law Division, Assistant
Presiding Judge, and Presiding Judge of the Appellate Division; and
WHEREAS, Judge Spinetta was instrumental in turnihdithe dream of a family court building into a
reality. His tireless efforts over the course of'many years lead`to"the construction of the new family

WHEREAS, the County Boar&'of`Super"visors named the new courthouseMthe Pezter,L. Spinetta
Family Law Center, changing"itsown rules•prohibiting naming a building forallvingsperson; and
