(Jack) Telfer Resident of Martinez Jack Telfer passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 5th surrounded by„his family after a brief illness. He was 84. Jack was born November 23rd 1922 in Joliet Illinois, the youngest of 5 children. Born and raised during the depression, as a young boy he worked as a paperboy, Western Union delivery boy and at a drug store to help support his family. An army veteran, he served in the European Theatre during WWII. Jack was a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Chemistry. In 1946, he was hired as a chemical engineer for Shell Oil Company. In 1948 he was transferred to Martinez where he met the love of his life, Asilee McMahon, daughter of a Martinez pioneer family. After a yearlong courtship that originated from a blind date, they were married. He acquired Blumquist Tank Lines of Redwood City in 1959, which later became Telfer Tank Lines in Martinez. He also started Asphalt Service Company in 1958. In addition, Jack also owned and managed properties in downtown Martinez. A lifelong supporter of the town of Martinez, he was a director of the Martinez Regional Land Trust and a founding director of John Muir National Bank. He was a member of the Knights of Malta, ,where he and his wife took ailing people to Lourdes, France for many years. He also ;assisted in serving food at St. Anthony's Pantry in Richmond. Jack was a loyal supporter of St. Catherine's Church for the past 58 years. In addition to his many charitable acts, he and Asilee enjoyed traveling the world and the Pacific Northwest. He also loved golf, crossword puzzles, singing old Irish ballads and spending time with his family. His ;deep faith was an inspiration to all of us and he will be in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Asilee; along with five children: son, John and wife, Wilma, son, Michael and wife, Judy, and daughter, Patty and husband, Al Hector all of Martinez; son, Tom and wife, Lani of Cardiff-by-the-Sea; daughter, Terri and husband, Brian Uhlir of Redding; along with 9 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter A rosary will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m., St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Martinez, with a funeral mass at the same location on Thursday at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to: Muir Heritage Land Trust, P.O.
