ACKNOWLEDGE the Health Services Department, Mental Health Division's Vocational Services Program staff for being recognized by the State Department of Rehabilitation as the most successful vocational program for mental health clients in the State of California. and for "maximizing the vocational potential of its clients to a very high degree. which has resulted in a large percentage of clients earning wages at a significant income level." FISCAL IMPACT: None. BACKGROUND: The Mental Health Division's Vocational Services Program is a cooperative services I program between the State Department of Rehabilitation and Contra Costa Mental Health. The program staff is dedicated to providing meaningful employment services for county mental health and alcohol and other drug consumers who are ready to enter or return to competitive employment. Since 1996. the program has grown from one staff member under contract with the Division. to a staff of 13 merit system employees and over a million and a half dollars of federal and state funding. T�a i i I I I ' D Vocational Services staff successfully placed and maintained 58 consumers in competitive employment. In addition to being the most successful vocational services program in the State. Contra Costa's is the only County vocational program that partners with its Alcohol and Other Drugs Program to assist dually diagnosed clients in entering or re-entering the work force. j The success of Contra Costa's Vocational Services Program has resulted in its selection by the State Department of Rehabilitation to train other county vocational services cooperative programs in assisting mental health and dually diagnosed consumers to obtain meaningful employment. i I I i i I i I i
