In November 2006, 1 was appointed to the 21-member Community Advisory Committee by the Concord City Council. I am one of the three non-resident members of the CAC which is overseeing the creation of the Reuse Plan for the Concord Naval Weapons Station. The CAC's work was delayed by three months when the Navy proposed to bypass the established Base Realignment and Closure Act by selling the entire base to a military construction firm. The Navy decided not to pursue that idea and now will proceed with the BRAC process. Concord wants people living outside the city to provide their thoughts and recommendations to the CAC. That's why three non-residents were appointed. On Saturday, April 21, there will be another Open House regarding the future of the Weapons Station. It will be held at the Senior Center in Concord from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Families, including those with young children, are encouraged to attend. Many displays will be set up allowing the public to learn about the process and give your opinions. You can learn more about this Open House and other Weapons Station activities by visiting this website: www.concordreuseproject.org Or by calling 925.671 .3019. After a decade of inactivity since the base was deactivated, the reuse law's schedule now requires a plan be approved by the Concord City Council by Fall 2008. Thus, now is the time for the public to make its opinions known. Greg Enholm Qbenholma-hotmail.com 925.458.9186 <=Oftontra.napanet. It was bad enough when a loved one was suicidal and drove to the emergency room but could not get in because there was NO PARKING. This was three years ago! NOW, there are not enough beds (closer of 20) for people in CRISIS. What a CLOSED PSYCH EMERGENCY? Life and death crisis, if they are suicidal and having to use the regular emergency and either walking away or waiting hours until the staff figure out what to do with them. This is not humane treatment. You know what they say about how to tell a sinking ship? You see even the mice leaving! Not only are clerks and staff from conservertorship to Adult clinics leaving or retiring but also, key staff as is the case with Dr. N. Ebbert, another lead psychatrist and two staff from the OCE office. What is going on and why aren't the County Supervisors doing anything to stop the Health FAILURE in our county??????????????????????????????????????????? Sincerely frustrated, Veronica B. Vale resident of Contra Costa
