FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost associated with this action will result in an annual cost of$66,342 which will be funded by the Office of the Sheriff. BACKGROUND: The Office of the Sheriff has requested a salary review of the Emergency Planning Coordinator and Senior Emergency Planning Coordinator class series. Staff conducted an external salary survey with surrounding bay area counties. The results concluded that the Senior Emergency Planning Coordinator and Emergency Planning Coordinator classifications are significantly below the median. The Emergency Services Division has been experiencing recruiting and retention issues for a lengthy period of time due to many of their employees in the Emergency Services Planning Coordinator and Senior class series have accepted opportunities with bay area counties and/or cities that offer both higher salaries and promotional opportunities outside of the County. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Should this request not be granted, the incumbents will not be appropriately compensated for duties performed and the Office of the Sheriffs, Emergency Services Division, will continue to experience recruiting and retention issues.
