SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution #20247 canceling one (1)
Community Services Director— Exempt position (Unrepresented) and abandoning the
classification.
FISCAL IMPACT: There are no fiscal implications associated with the cancellation of this
vacant position and abandonment of this classification.
BACKGROUND: Currently, there are two classifications entitled Community Services Director—
Exempt. One of these classifications, designated a department head, is obsolete. The other,
which is a division head, is the currently filled classification.
Pursuant to the merger of the Community Services Department and the Employment & Human
Services Department, Community Services is no longer an operating department of Contra
Costa County. Rather, Community Services is now a bureau within the Employment and Human
Services Department. As such, the Community Services Director position is no longer a
department head, but now a Bureau Chief under the general direction of the Employment &
