SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract with Bay Alarm Company to accept an amount up to $50,000 in sponsorship proceeds designated for the provision of scholarships, classes, and recruiting for the Law Enforcement Training Center for the period September 1, 2006 through August 31, 2008, with Sheriff's Charities as the funds intermediary. FINANCIAL IMPACT: No County Costs. Revenue $50,000 to fund scholarships, recruiting efforts, and classes for the Law Enforcement Training Center. BACKGROUND: Bay Alarm Company is the largest independently owned alarm company in the United States and is headquartered in Pacheco. Bay Alarm has provided sponsorship and promotional contributions to the Law Enforcement Training Center in the form of scholarships, in-service courses, recruiting efforts, direct mail, event support, and media support. This action will renew the prior period contract to provide these services for a two year period. Of the $50,000 in this contract, $30,000 will be applied toward scholarships, $15,000 for media purchase, and $5,000 for a self-defense course. Billboard space, media support, advertising support, and direct mail will be funded through Bay Alarm in this agreement.
