behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-458-9 with Access Nurses, a corporation,
effective January 1, 2007, to amend Contract #26-458-8, to increase the Contract payment limit by
$390,000, from $900,000 to a new total of$1,290,000 with no change in the original term of September
1,2006 through August 31, 2007.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract funded 100%by Enterprise I budget.
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
For several years the County has contracted with registries to provide temporary medical professionals to
assist Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers during peak loads,
temporary absences, and emergency situations. There is a nationwide nursing and healthcare staff
shortage, and in spite of persistent efforts to recruit nurses and other healthcare staff, the Department has
experienced great difficulty in filling any vacant positions. Therefore, the Department has had to rely
heavily on the registry services in order to provide quality`nursing care for patients.
On September 12, 2006, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-458-8 with Access Nurses to
provide temporary nursing services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health
Centers, for the period from September 1,2006 through August 31, 2007.
