HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04242007 - HA.1 HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA TO: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FROM: Rudy Tamayo, Executive Director DATE: April 24, 2007 SUBJECT: COLLECTION LOSS WRITE-OFF FOR THE QUARTER ENDING MARCH 31, 2007 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: ADOPT Resolution No. 5087 approving collection loss write-offs in the amount of$48,305.61 quarter ending March 31, 2007 as recommended by the Advisory Housing Commission. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Uncollectable accounts impact on the budget by reducing total rental income. At the end of each quarter, the Housing Authority takes action to write off those accounts that have been determined to be uncollectable. For the quarter ending March 31, 2007 a collection loss write-off in the amount of $48,305.61 is recommended. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND This collection loss is for the Conventional Program. The requested collection loss write-off reflects a total of 15 accounts that are being recommended for write-off, representing an average of$3,220.37 per account. The following chart illustrates the collection lossesper quarter for the past four quarters: Conventional Program 03/07 $48,305:61 12/06 $44,705;',83 09/06 $46,796:70 06/06 $ 3,388.33 Prior to submission of an account for write-off, the staff makes every effort, including referral to a collection agency, to collect money that is owed the Housing Authority. IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Should the Board of Commissioners elect not to adopt Resolution No. 5087 these accounts would inflate the total accounts receivable for the Housing Authority and present a distorted financial picture.
