SUBJECT: Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement#22-552-3
with Samuel Merritt College
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION(S):
Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Wendel Brunner)to execute on
behalf of the County, Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-552-3 with Samuel Merritt College
to provide field instruction in the Health Services Department for Contractor's students, for the
period from April 1, 2007 through March 31, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S):
The purpose of this agreement is to provide Contractor's students with the opportunity to integrate
academic knowledge with application skills and attitudes at progressively higher levels of
performance requirements and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience for students is
considered to be an integral part of both the educational and professional preparation. The Health
Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, taking
advantage of the students' services to patients.
On August 6, 2002, the Board of Supervisors approved Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-
552-2 with Samuel Merritt College for the period from July 1, 2002 through June 30, 2005.
Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-552-3 will continue to provide supervised
clinical experience for students enrolled at Samuel Merritt College through March 31, 2010.
