HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04102007 - AJ.1 All THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Date: April 10, 2007 Adjournment On this date the Board of Supervisors adjourned this meeting in memory of Army Pfc. James J. Coon. Mr. Coon was a 22 year resident of Walnut Creek. James Coon died Wednesday in Balad, Iraq, when an explosive device detonated near his vehicle, according to the Department of Defense. Coon's bravery and selflessness in the earlier attack put him under consideration for a Bronze Star. He ran from his vehicle without protection or a weapon and put tourniquets on two wounded soldiers,who died in the attack along with four others in the unit. Coon was a punter on Las Lomas High School's 2002 championship football team. He graduated in 2003 and attended Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill before enlisting in the Army. He was assigned to the 1"Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2°a Brigade, 1St Cavalry Division, in Fort Hood, Texas, and was deployed to Iraq in October. We lost one of our own today, I received a call this evening from Lori and James Coon telling me that they lost their 22 year old son,James,He was deployed to Iraq in October of last year.Lori and James joined our group In Novamber.
