FISCAL IMPACT: There is no cost associated with this action as the salary/benefits will be offset by a reduction in overtime costs. BACKGROUND: Due to regulatory and staffing requirements, the hospital must provide nursing and administrative oversight on evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. This function is currently performed by the class of Nursing Shift Coordinator. Due to the small number of FTE's(5) Nursing Shift Coordinators assigned to this classification if is often difficult.to cover required shifts for vacations, sick calls or other types of approved absence. For this reason, Health Services requests the establishment of Nursing Shift Coordinator—Per Diem classification. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Failure to approve the establishment of the Nursing Shift Coordinator—Per Diem classification will result in inadequate supervisory coverage for vacations, sick leave or other leave of absence.
