RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution #20210 to REALLOCATE the salary of Infection Control
Coordinator (Unrepresented) from Salary Plan/Grade B85-1856 ($6,451-$7,841) to Salary
Plan/Grade B85-2083 ($8,077-8,905), and RETITLE classification from Infection Control
Coordinator to Infection Prevention and Control Program Manager.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total annual cost associated with this action will be$14,444.52. The total cost for FY2006-07 is
$1,342. Funding will come from Enterprise Fund 1 and third party revenues.
BACKGROUND:
A classification and external compensation study was conducted to determine the duties and
appropriate salary for the Infection Control Coordinator classification. The results concluded that
the duties and responsibilities have significantly increased in scope of authority and responsibility
due to changes in regulatory requirements as well as changes in the infectious disease patterns of
hospitalized patients. The position is also mandated by regulatory agencies, such as Joint
Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations(JCAHO). The position has evolved into

programmatic responsibility.
Because the duties have evolved from a Coordinator to a managerial level and the duties and salary
are similar to the internal Nurse Program Manager classification, Human Resources recommends
reallocating the salary of Infection Prevention and Control Program Manager to ($8,077-8,905).
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Should this request not be granted, the incumbent,will not be appropriately classified for duties
performed outside of her current classification.
