RECOMMENDATION : Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution # 20214 adding one Deputy District
Attorney—Advanced Level {2KTG, Unrepresented} in the District Attorney's Office..
FISCAL IMPACT : The cost associated with this action is approximately $ 192,697 annually, and will be
funded 75% by the Community Based Prosecution funding from the City of Richmond, and 25% from the
North Richmond Mitigation Fees. Thus, there are no net County costs.
BACKGROUND : The Deputy District Attorney—Advanced Level classification is the highest working
level prosecutor position in the Deputy District Attorney extended-range deep class. As the volume of
work in the District Attorney's Office continues to increase, so does the need for positions requiring
advanced, specialized legal skills.
RESULT OF NEGATIVE ACTION : If this action is not approved, the Contra Costa County District
Attorney's Office will have fewer positions in which to promote the best qualified attorneys. This
compromises the department's ability to retain qualified employees. In the long term, this could adversely
affect the quality of work within the District Attorney's Office and pose a potential threat to public safety of
the citizens of Contra Costa County.
