FISCAL IMPACT : The cost associated with this action is approximately $ 155,388 annually, and will be funded 100% by Community Prosecution funding from the cities of Brentwood and Concord. Thus, there are no net County costs. BACKGROUND : The Deputy District Attorney— Basic Level classification is the lowest working level prosecutor position in the Deputy District Attorney extended-range deep class. Fixed-Term Deputy District Attorneys, upon completion of their 3 year term, may promote to the Basic Level Deputy District Attorney. As the volume of work in the District Attorney's Office continues to increase, so does the need for positions requiring advanced, specialized legal skills. RESULT OF NEGATIVE ACTION : If this action is not approved, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office will have fewer positions in which to promote the best qualified fixed-term attorneys. This compromises the department's ability to retain qualified employees. In the long term, this could adversely affect the quality of work within the District Attorney's Office and pose a potential threat to public safety of the citizens of Contra Costa County.
