FISCAL IMPACT: No general funds are associated with this action. Funds will be generated through charges billed to outside agencies for services provided by Public Works. BACKGROUND: Public Works requested an external and internal survey to review the salaries for the Deputy Public Works Director - Exempt and the Supervising Civil Engineer classifications to ensure competitiveness in the market. Staff conducted an external salary survey and found that the classification of Deputy Public Works Director - Exempt is 12 % lower than the Market rate and the proposed reallocation will bring the salary within 2% of the Market rate. The Supervising Civil Engineer classification is currently 3% below the Market rate and the proposed 2.5% increase will bring the salary exactly to the Market. No internal compaction issues will be caused by these reallocations. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Failure to reallocate these salaries will result in a decrease of competitiveness in the market for both classifications.
