REFER the prioritization of capital projects for veterans' halls to the Capital Facilities Committee. FISCAL IMPACT: The fiscal impact is unknown, as it is dependent on the success of the requests for federal funding. BACKGROUND: The County owns 11 Veterans Memorial buildings located throughout the county. Staff in the General Services Department has compiled a list of deferred maintenance projects related to building improvements for these facilities that cost approximately $2 million. Federal appropriation requests of our legislative delegation are being made at this time for FY 2008 funding. Deadlines are approaching for submittals, and we are well advised to consider the capital needs of our veterans' halls. FISCAL IMPACT: If successful, the County could receive proximately $135,000 in federal funds for veterans' hall projects. BACKGROUND: Staff in the GeneraServic s Department has compiled a list of 39 prioritized projects for building improvements that cost ver $644,000 (the County owns 11 Veterans Memorial buildings). A substantial number o he projects indicate a need for additional ADA improvements that must be better defined an stimated through a comprehensive ADA study. (No cost estimates are available /ee ovements as yet.) As veterans continue to age, accessing and using these buildings ore critical, and ADA compliance must be addressed. Projects identified as high priority include: Crockett: Replace the cracked and dangerous stairs around a exterior of the building. The new scheme will improve safety and allow eelchair access to the building.
