SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, on behalf of the Workforce Development Board, to execute a contract amendment with Los Medanos College, a Public Agency, effective February 6, 2007, to increase the payment limit by $30,000 to a new payment limit not to exceed $150,000 and to extend the term from January 31, 2007 to June 30, 2007 to provide additional classroom counseling services. FISCAL IMPACT: $150,000: No County Costs; 80% Walter S. Johnson Foundation Grant— Gateway for Disadvantaged Youth Project, 20% Workforce Investment Act (WIA)Youth Formula Funds. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This interagency agreement supports the first and second community outcomes: 1) "Children �. . Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2) "Children and Youth H71hd Preparing for Productive Adulthood." Johnson Foundation Grant supplemented by Workforce Investment Act Youth Formula Funds to develop and provide programs designed to help disadvantaged youth and students to develop "soft skills" necessary to succeed in college and in the workplace. These programs will have the added benefit of helping students satisfy pre-requisites for math and English for subsequent enrollment in college and career pathways programs. Los Medanos College (LMC) developed these programs ("Bridge Program" and "Pre-Bridge Program")for application in East County through their campus in Pittsburg. (#18-106-2)
