HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07112006 - C.55 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS . - Contra FROM: William Walker, M.D., Health Services Director Costa By: Jacqueline Pigg, Contracts Administrator {' DATE: June 1, 2006 ' �o� County SUBJECT: Approval of Contract#26-568 with the Regents of University of California, Berkeley for its School of Public Health SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Jeff Smith, M.D.) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract#26-568 with the Regents of the University of California, Berkeley, for its School of Public Health, an educational institution, in an amount not to exceed $80,797, to conduct a needs assessment to evaluate the educational needs of diabetic patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and provide training services to County designated staff to expand the roles of health educators in chronic disease management, for the period from March 1, 2006, through February 28, 2007, including mutual indemnification to hold harmless both parties for any claims arising out of the performance of this Contract. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is 100% funded by the Kaiser Community Permanente Community Benefits Grant Funds. No County funds required. BACKGROUND/REASON(S)FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): The Regents of the University of California, Berkeley, for its School of Public Health, and its Health Research for Actions (HRA) Program, of which is a center within the UC Berkeley has been conducting research for over 18 years and has bridged the gap between what people want and need to know. Its mission is to conduct research on key health issues and to translate the results into effective interventions. The HRA has conducted extensive research and analysis of health care issues and have just completed a comprehensive study of eldercare needs. Under Contract #26-568, the Contractor's Health Research for Action (HRA) Program team will conduct a research and analysis, needs assessment and training services with regard to diabetes management at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, including drafting recommendations and based on the findings, develop a plan for implementation of all recommendations, including an exploration of expanded roles for health educators in chronic disease management,through February 28, 2007.
