RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution Number 20081 to ADD one Administrative Aide.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual cost associated with this action is $50,051.65, which will be funded by the cancellation of
the contractor who is currently performing these duties. No general funds are associated with this
action.
BACKGROUND:
The Engineering Services' Special Districts Division of Public Works is responsible for the
management of facilities, landscaping, and park improvements in all Special Districts throughout the
County. Over the last seven years, there has been a dramatic increase in the workload of this division
due to a rise in community involvement. In order to meet the increasing demands of the community,
Public Works hired a contract employee to perform the needed additional administrative tasks for the
division. Realizing that these duties are needed on a permanent basis, the department has requested
to fill this position on a permanent basis.
Staff conducted a study of the position and has found that the classification of Administrative Aide is
the best fit for the duties being performed, which include preparing and processing contracts and
Board Orders, overseeing the operations of community centers, reviewing and reconciling statements
and times sheets for community centers, working with General Services' Architectural staff on facility
upgrades, developing and running a recreation program, making oral presentation to community
groups, and completing long term administrative projects.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Failure to add the Administrative Aide position will result in a decrease of efficiency in the
Engineering Services' Special Districts Division of Public Works.
