SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution #20083 to ADD one P.I. Pharmacist I position to the Martinez
Detention Facility and INCREASE the hours of one Pharmacy Technician position #9262 from P.I. to
40/40.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The annual cost associated with this request to add the one P.I. Pharmacist position is $71,809 and
will be offset by the elimination of temporary staff. The cost associated with increasing the hours of
position #9262 to full-time is $27,349.75 which is available through the enterprise budget.
BACKGROUND:
Health Services is requesting to add one P.I. Pharmacist I position to the Martinez Detention facility
as the position is necessary to provide weekend coverage. There is currently only one permanent
Pharmacist for both the West County and Martinez Detention facility. A Pharmacist is needed seven
days a week to dispense medication and maintain proper staffing levels.
The hours of Pharmacy Technician position #9262 were reduced from PFT (40/40) to P.I. during
budget reductions. However, the Department underestimated the number of Technician hours
necessary to maintain proper staffing levels in the Inpatient Pharmacy; therefore, the restoration of
this position to PFT is necessary.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Should this request not be granted, the Martinez Detention Facility Inpatient Pharmacy will not have
proper staffing levels and coverage for the weekend as only one-Pharmacist now covers for both the
West County and Martinez Detention facility.
