HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06272006 - HA.1 S HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA T • BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FROM: Rudy Tamayo, Executive Director DATE: June 27, 2006 SUBJECT: LEASE AGREEMENT EXTENSION BETWEEN THE HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA AND THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES FOR USE OF 94A MEDANOS AVENUE, BAY POINT AS A HEAD START FACILITY SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Acting as the Board of Supervisors, APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the General Services Director, and acting as the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa, AUTHORIZE and APPROVE the Executive Director to execute a one-year Lease Extension in accordance with section A.5 of the original Lease executed July 1, 2001, for use of the premises at 94A Medanos Avenue, Bay Point, California, as stated in the attached Lease Extension. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The rental rate is $520 per month, which will go into the Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa's Non-Dwelling Rentals account that is a General Fund Account that is used to provide general maintenance for the Housing Authority. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND The County of Contra Costa has been using 94A Medanos Avenue, Bay Point, CA, as a Head Start facility operated by the County of Contra Costa. This facility and program is available to Public Housing residents of the Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa, as well as the surrounding community. This Lease Agreement has been in effect since July 1, 2001. There are five (5) 1-year extensions in the agreement. This is the fifth and final one-year extension to be effective July 1, 2006, ending June 30, 2007 and is subject to Board approval. IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Should the Boards elect not to authorize the General Services Director and the Executive Director to exercise a one-year extension of the Lease Agreement, the Head Start program operated by the County would no longer function at this site and this would be a detriment to the development, as well as to the community. NOW, THEREFORE,the Authority for and in consideration of the promises and covenants in the aforesaid lease, and other valuable consideration, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hereby agrees that said lease shall be, and it hereby is, extended beginning JULY 1, 2006 and ending JUNE 30, 2007. The monthly rate for this one-year lease extension is $520.00. The County hereby covenants and agrees that during the course of the lease extension period the County shall perform and be bound by all of the covenants and conditions contained in said lease agreement of July 1, 2001.
