HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06272006 - C.68 -� Contra TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Costa FROM: Danna Fabella, Interim Director `u6 = V y`ko County Employment and Human Services Department Tq COUNT June 13 DATE: Ju , 2006 SUBJECT: Contract Amendment and Term Extension with Mark Mithaiwala in the amount of$31,145.62 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION* APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Interim Director, Or designee, to execute a contract amendment with Mark Mithaiwala effective June 30, 2006, to increase the contract payment limit by $17,345.62 to a new payment limit of$31,145.62 and extend the term from June 30, 2006 to October 30, 2006 to provide additional Employment Placement Counselor Services. (Budgeted: CaIWORKS (15% County; 85% Federal) (All Districts) FINANCIAL IMPACT: $31,145.62: 100% CaIWORKS (15% County; 85%Federal) CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT- This contract supports all five of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: 1) "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood"; 3) "Families that are Economically Self Sufficient"; 4) "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; and 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families," by assisting families secure self-sufficiency through employment. BACKGROUND, The Employment and Human Services Department's (EHSD) Workforce Services Bureau is responsible for administering the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs)program throughout Contra Costa County. The CalWORKs programs assists program participants to achieve self-sufficiency through employment. In her role as Employment Placement Counselor, Gina Baker works with CaIWORKS participants and assists them in their transition from dependency to self-sufficiency. She conducts mini workshops for job search,job retention, and developing interview skills. She maintains an ongoing relationship with local employers to develop and refers clients for available job. (19-173) This contract is for a limited period of time while the Department evaluates the continuing need for these services to determine how best to provide them.
