RESOLUTION HONORING RESOLUTION NO. 2006/ 4 0 6
CHIEF JAMES J. JOHNSTON UPON
HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MORAGA
ORINDA FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
WHEREAS, Chief Johnston began his career in 1975 as a On-Call Volunteer with the City of Chico Fire
Department; and
WHEREAS, Chief Johnston then moved on to serve as a firefighter for the cities of Piedmont and Burlingame;
and
WHEREAS, Chief Johnston joined the City of San Leandro as a firefighter in February of 1978, rose through
the ranks, becoming an Engineer in August of 1983, Captain in January 1986, Battalion Chief in February
1989, Deputy Fire Chief in September 1993 and Acting Fire Chief in December 1994; and
WHEREAS, Chief Johnston was hired as Deputy Chief,of Alamedq County Fire Department in July of 1995;
and
WHEREAS, Chief Johnston became'the first Fire;Cwbfbf the newly formedMoraga Orinda Fire Protection
District in 1997; and
WHEREAS; Chief Johnston helped J
form and hasm'plemented a 5- car strategiciplan,to meet the many,
challenges facing the distract arid: 116 provide a vision of.the district's future .Their mission statement
reads..."provide the highest level of emergency and public service in response to the needs of our community."
NOW, THEREFORE BE.IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors and thanks , E, s
