SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION* APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract with Lao Family Community Development, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $75,504 to provide employment case management services to limited English proficient CalWORKs applicants and recipients for the period July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. FINANCIAL IMPACT: $75,504 CalWORKs, 15% County, 85%Federal CHIT.DRF,NIS IMPACT STATEMENT: This contract directly supports three of the five community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: (3)"Families that are Economically Self-Sufficient"; (4) "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; and, (5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families"by providing skills to increase economic self-sufficiency and build stronger family relationships. RACKGROUND_ Lao Family Community Development provides pre- and post-employment case management services to limited English proficient CalWORKs applicants and recipients residing in West Contra Costa County. Services include assisted job search,job placement, employment disputes resolution for job retention, and other job related information. Contractor will provide translation and interpretation services in Vietnamese and Laotian dialects.
