HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06202006 - C.78 e se t TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra Costa FROM: Danna Fabella, Interim Director / Count Employment and Human Services Department a coax- DATE: May 30, 2006 C / SUBJECT: Approve and Authorize the Employment and Human Services Interim Director, or designee, to execute a contract with FamiliesFirst, Inc., in the amount of$169,000.00 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION* Approve and Authorize the Employment and Human Services Interim Director, or designee, to execute a contract with FamiliesFirst, Inc., in the amount of$169,000, to provide Shared Family Care services (SFC) for the period July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. (Budgeted: State Family Preservation Funds (30% County; 70% State) (All Districts) FINANCIAL IMPACT: $169,000: State Family Preservation Funds (30% County; 70% State) CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATFMF.NT: This contract supports all five of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: 1) "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood"; 3) "Families that are Economically Self Sufficient"; 4) "Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; and 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families," by providing Family Enhancement Services. BACKGROUND- FamiliesFirst, Inc. was selected from a competitive procurement, Request for Proposal (RFP) #1076, to provide Family Enhancement Collaborative (FEC) services to the Children and Family Services (CFS).Bureau. Services under the Family Enhancement Collaborative include shared family care, kinship, and family preservation. The Shared Family Care program is a whole family mentoring program where a mother and her children are placed in the homes of community members who mentor the families and help them obtain the skills and resources to help them achieve their goals. The target population for this program is young mothers with substance abuse issues and who have children in the Child Welfare System. The families are given comprehensive services including housing assistance, drug and alcohol counseling, case management, money management,job skills training and parenting and child development classes, to help them meet their needs. The goal of the program is to assist the parents in developing skills necessary for healthy, safe, and independent living with their children.
