HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06202006 - C.33 33 In the Matter of RESOLUTION NO. 2006/391 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE VIOLENCE PREVENTION GOALS OF THE RICHMOND IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION WHEREAS; On March 2, 2005, The Richmond Improvement.Association in conjunction with its fellow co- founders of the Blessed are the Peacemakers campaign-the Richmond Mosque of the Nation of Islam and the Richmond Chapter of the NAACP- convened a community meeting to discuss methods by which the community could stop the senseless killing of men and women in Richmond California, and; WHEREAS; On June 4, 2005, the Richmond Improvement Association sponsored the Richmond Black-on- Black Crime Summit. It attracted over three hundred attendees that participated in some or all of the conference activities, and; WHEREAS; The participants in the Richmond Black on Blackf Crime Summit have committed to identifying Best Practice' intervention tactics in the areas of Crime&Violence, Education& Youth, Econonuc Development, Political Action, Cultural Awareness and Spiritual Responsibility and to secure support, resources and staff to implement effective programs, and; WHEREAS; The violence prevention strategies developed at the Black on Black Crime Summit include the following identified Best Practices' and Faith Based Initiative" programs that can contribute to a safe, peaceful and prosperous Richmond: Project Clean Slate, B.U.I.L.D. (Business United in.Investing and Developing youth), Bidwell and Manchester Craftsmen's Guild, Richmond Steelers For Life Program, The San Quentin Trust Project, the Pre-Apprenticeship program in Construction and Building Trades, and the 100 African American Men Against Crime, Violence and Injustice; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; That the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hereby acknowledges the efforts of the Richmond Improvement Association to bring about a safe, peaceful, and prosperous Richmond for all citizens, and recognize they are active stakeholders in this effort and support their identified best practices as violence prevention strategies.
