SUBJECT: Continue the emergency action originally taken by I he Board of Supervisors on
March 21, 2006, regarding the repair of storm damage to roads and channels,
Countywide.
DATE: May 9, 2006
PAGE: 2 of 2
FISCAL IMPACT:
No impact on the General Fund. The repair projects will be covered by County road funds and Federal
Highway Administration funding.
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIO IINS AND BACKGROUND:
As a result of a strong storm on December 31, 2005 and heavy storm runoff, severe erosion has
occurred in channels and banks.
Along Alhambra Valley Road at guardrails #10 and 11, storm-caused erosion has already started to
undercut the lane of pavement closest to the adjacent creek. To protect public safety at both locations,
the road was closed down to one lane and concrete barriers installed.
CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the request is not approved, the necessary repairs would likely be delayed, potentially compromising
public safety, interfering with public traffic, and resulting in more extensive damage and increased repair
cost.
