RECOMMENDATION:
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 20060 of adding one 20/40 part-time Clerk-Experienced
Level position in the Community Development Department as recommended by the Director of Human
Resources.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total annual cost associated with this action is approximately $19,191; $6,397 for fiscal year
2005/06. Funded from Land Use Application Fees (non-General Fund monies).
BACKGROUND:
The addition of one (1) 20/40 part-time Clerk-Experienced Level position will provide general routine
clerical duties to the Current Planning Division. Duties that will be performed include: typing
correspondence and staff reports, answering incoming telephone calls, retrieving files, filing, copying
various documents and mailing letters/correspondence.
CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The Current Planning Division's delivery of services would be impacted by inadequate clerical support
staff.

SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution #20046 to ESTABLISH the classification of Cancer Registry Specialist
(VGSA) and ADD one position and CANCEL one Medical Records Coder position #11915.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no cost associated with this action as adding the Cancer Registry Specialist position is offset by
canceling a vacant Medical Records Coder position at the same salary level.
BACKGROUND:
The Health Services Department is requesting to establish the classification of Cancer Registry Specialist for
Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
The position of Tumor Registrar was abolished in 2003, following the promotion of an incumbent to the
classification of Medical Records Coder. The duties of the Tumor Registrar class were subsequently tagged
onto the classification of the Medical Records Coder. By 2005 the incumbent in this position resigned from the
County.
Due to the resignation of the incumbent, the department has determined that the duties of the Tumor Registrar
position are separate and apart from that of the Medical Records Coder. Therefore, the department would like
to re-establish the classification of Tumor Registrar and re-title it to Cancer Registry Specialist.
The duties of the Cancer Registry Specialist are essentially the same duties of the Tumor Registrar's
classification. The change in the title of the position was found to be best suited for the class. In addition, the
minimum qualifications have been changed to include additional education and experience.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Should this request not be granted, cancer data will not be maintained in accordance with the require is of
the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
