HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04182006 - C.60 C_ b TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ^ ? -- Contra FROM: William Walker,M.D.,Health Services Director IVN" ' Costa By: Jacqueline Pigg, Contracts Administrator County DATE: April 19, 2006 SUBJECT: Approval of Contract#74-275 with Nursefmders, Inc., dba Nursefinders of San Francisco SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATIONS)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION ' RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Donna Wigand) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #74-275 with Nursefinders, Inc., dba Nursefinders of San Francisco, a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $39,000, to provide temporary licensed psychiatric technicians for county-referred youth, for the period from December 1,2005 through June 30, 2006. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 100%by Mental Health Realignment. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: I This program supports the following Board of Supervisors' community outcomes: "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing'. and "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families''. Expected program outcomes include an increase in positive social and emotional development as measured by the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS). BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): This Contract meets the social needs of County's population in that it provides specialized one-on- one psychiatric technician services, including treatment and supervision of County-designated youth, as an alternative to discharging Ithe youth into unsafe living arrangements. Under Contract #74-275, the Contractor will provide licensed psychiatric technicians for County- designated youth through June 30, 2006. Wigand, LCSW Mental Heali Director �� SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR RETROACTIVE APPROVAL OF A NEW CONTRACT FOR: NURSEFINDERS,INC. dba NURSEFINDERS OF SAN FRANCISCO STATEMENT OF NEED FOR RETROACTIVE CONTRACT In December 2005 a Contra Costa youth was injured at one of our contracted residential facilities in Richmond, sustaining multiple fractures to both legs. He was admitted to UCSF Medical Center where lie has undergone one surgery and awaits a second in February. While recovering from his first surgery,the youth exhibited behaviors that were determined harmful to himself and to the hospital staff. The hospital staff requested a one-on-one licensed psychiatric technician to treat and supervise the youth as an alternative to discharging this patient to an unsafe living arrangement. Therefore, retroactive approval is being requested to cover the costs of a temp agency that contracts out licensed nursing care Istaff. Approval of this request for retroactive contract will result in a total payment limit of$7000. M7 BENEFIT OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY Approval of this retroactive contra A amendment will allow for contractor to provide necessary care for a Contra Costa youth who is hospitalized awaiting surgery so that he can become ambulatory and return to residential living.
